Cultural Connections

Cultural Connections Project

Step One:

  • Use this website as a model of information about another culture. Make sure you look through each page, picture, and video. Decide on another culture that you would like to research. Then, think about the culture you choose and come up with a narrow question/topic ; for example, what kind of music do teens in Roeun listen to? Or what stores are most popular for teens in Rouen?

Step Two
:
  • Now that you've decided on a culture and have your topic narrowed down, you need to post your topic and question to our class forum. Make sure that there are no repeats in cultures!
  • You're ready to start investigating! Click here for a screencast on how to use Google.
  • Remember:cite your sources (Retrieved from [insert URL] on [insert date], make sure you are using a reliable source such as official offices of culture and tourism, the CIA Factbook, Newspapers (i.e. New York Times)

Step Three:
  • Once you have found enough information to answer your question, post your findings in our class forum along with your topic and question. In addition, you need to post how your findings relate to your own culture as a teen.

Step Four:
  • You will provide feedback for at least one of your peers on our class forum view the checklist below for requirements. This will be graded as participation.
  • Feedback Checklist

Step Five:
  • Using digital images of the culture you chose you are to either make a glog or a digital story to use as a visual aid for your oral presentation. Your visual aid should include pictures of the specific topic you chose to investigate.
  • Here are the links to the sites you may need to use: Glogster.com or Animoto.com
  • Click here for a screencast of how to use Glogster or Animoto

Step Six: (You're almost there!)
  • Organize and practice giving an oral presentation on your findings. Your presentation should be about 2-3 minutes long and it should answer the question that you posed in the beginning. Remember that you will need to use your visual aid during your presentation.

Final Project:
  • You will be graded on your oral presentation, visual aid, and ability to adequately answer the question you asked about another culture.
